Pradeepam

The vision of this project, i name it as Pradeepam is to empower lesser-privileged children with access to information by teaching them compter & internet and thus the opportunity. To make the youth confident though learning and various self-improvement techniques with dare-devil fearless attitude.
PAAD(Professional Association of Action&Develoment) : PAAD’s education project in the community and it comprises of dropout center(Sevamandir) ,support center (Prerna) for school going children and the preschool(Balbharati). These education centers are run by PAAD in collaboration with the community and capacity building is a part of it. The Sevamandir is PAAD’s alternative education framework.

Deepam as an idea was initiated in January 2008 when Ram Viswanathan discussed ‘giving-back’ to the society, over an early morning run with Karthikeyan. Since then, a bunch of enthusiastic volunteers have made the idea, a reality.

Deepam usually take laptops into slums in Chennai every weekend and teach children Computers and English in a fun-learning way.

Kick-staring of Computer Education in Sikarchandi, Bhubaneswar

Mostly volunteers of ArtofLiving(ArtofLiving.Org) are associated with PAAD and we all decided to have a go. We planned to give education on 2 categories. One is below 18 and the other is above 18. We visualize getting them absorbed after the completion of the course as a data entry operator with assurance from some good-hearted people. If in worst case, we don’t make them getting a job we will be satisfied getting them an education.

Bus Condutor owes

Recently I had a small trip from Bhadrak to Balasore after attending a marriage party. As I was traveling I asked curiously what time you start and their working hour. And the horrible answer was we sleep for 2/3 hours everyday. I thot this guy was bluffing and told so. As per him he earns Rs6000 per month, should be again an honest answer.

But he was adamant and asked to confirm with the driver who confirmed the 2/3 hours sleep they catches per day. Actually there day starts at 4AM. If they get up at 4.30AM they had to rush out. They starts at 5.30AM in the morning in he Bus which returns at 11PM and sometime if there is a rush they had to wait till 12AM to 2AM.

But at any cost they have to be at bus stand at 5.30AM. . So it is 18:30 Mins is precisely the working hour. They have their dinner at around 1 Am and sleep from 1:30 to 4 PM. Amazing life style.

I was reading a blog of a guy who is an entrepreneur and a marathoner; he catches 4 hours of sleep per day. These guys has concurred their sleep. Actually I have another blog on this sleep and body.
http://ajusamal1.blogspot.com/2007/01/mumbai-marathon.html

And this is 7days a week 365 days a year. And if one estimates the profit that is earned by the Bus owners at the cost of these poor guys, the margin should be huge. They save a persons salary. And if we calculate the profit they earn with the recent hike in bus fare, I bet it should be quite a lot.

Actually as per the estimate a Bus owner earns a profit of Rs5k-Rs8k per day (including all expenditure), my bit of estimation and after having words with few conductors.

These guys were quite enthusiastic about their saabs marriage as they will get a new Bus uniform, hats of to their honesty

And when I look at them deeply they don't really complain much, they enjoys their work.....

And we guys blasts if any work comes on Satdays and Sundays and if we extend beyond 10-11 hours per day. And I remember I got to estimate the more effort I had for past few days, I should able to grab a weeks compensatory off……

is there a regulatotory board for the sae or is there a need..

The Bus Drivers/conductors/Cleaners Woe

Dhauli Run

As Smurti could not turn-up for the day, i decided to run alone to the Dhauli, The curoisity of running was high as i need to have couple of weeks of rest since i had the plan of operation on my foot(remiving the external object that was implanted a year back).

It was a fabulous wake-up in the morning, Just after i opened my eyes and then again thinking to sleep back, the alarm did its job perfectly. Had a little bit self-talk imagining showering after the run before rushing for the odd job....

Picked up my fuel bag after creaming my foot, arm-pit and nipple with Vaseline. Runners need to take care of this as these are places where there are chances of bleeding with the friction. Munched a few bites of Candy, decided not to have much of food. Packed 2 candies and some cash and my dig camera on my arm-pouch.

Iced my calf last night to have a cooling effect.

Started from Jayadev Vihar home very slowly and very little stretching. The curious look of the folks looking at me are a thing to watch. Some people thought me as a foreigner and wished me Good morning to which i replied in perfect oriya to their stunned look. I really enjoy those moments. These are fun points on the run. Peoples curiosity drives me crazy.

I should start running a bit early, i love Sun coming out of dark and me running on road. That's a cool to watch and morning in this part of India is quite fantastic.

Initially my shin bone was complaining a bit but after 3/4k it was over and i was enjoying the run. Reached Governer house and then to Mausima square.

On the way waved a guy having a cigarate and gestured him for quiting.

Reached Lingarj temple comfortably and was going great. reached Dhauli square, may be a 15km perfectly and after which i realized i was slowing down a bit. This is where the mental toughness comes into picture. You need to make a rhythm to come-up with the speed. At this point of time I had finished all my candies and the electrolyte. This last 3 km run i really enjoyed, the road was quite scenic.

Started feeling a bit of cramp on my stomach and decided to walk a bit and it was gone.

And now reached Dhauli square in 1:46 min.
