Pradeepam

The vision of this project, i name it as Pradeepam is to empower lesser-privileged children with access to information by teaching them compter & internet and thus the opportunity. To make the youth confident though learning and various self-improvement techniques with dare-devil fearless attitude.
PAAD(Professional Association of Action&Develoment) : PAAD’s education project in the community and it comprises of dropout center(Sevamandir) ,support center (Prerna) for school going children and the preschool(Balbharati). These education centers are run by PAAD in collaboration with the community and capacity building is a part of it. The Sevamandir is PAAD’s alternative education framework.
Deepam as an idea was initiated in January 2008 when Ram Viswanathan discussed ‘giving-back’ to the society, over an early morning run with Karthikeyan. Since then, a bunch of enthusiastic volunteers have made the idea, a reality.
Deepam usually take laptops into slums in Chennai every weekend and teach children Computers and English in a fun-learning way.

Kick-staring of Computer Education in Sikarchandi, Bhubaneswar
Mostly volunteers of ArtofLiving(ArtofLiving.Org) are associated with PAAD and we all decided to have a go. We planned to give education on 2 categories. One is below 18 and the other is above 18. We visualize getting them absorbed after the completion of the course as a data entry operator with assurance from some good-hearted people. If in worst case, we don’t make them getting a job we will be satisfied getting them an education.

Bus Condutor owes
Recently I had a small trip from Bhadrak to Balasore after attending a marriage party. As I was traveling I asked curiously what time you start and their working hour. And the horrible answer was we sleep for 2/3 hours everyday. I thot this guy was bluffing and told so. As per him he earns Rs6000 per month, should be again an honest answer.
But he was adamant and asked to confirm with the driver who confirmed the 2/3 hours sleep they catches per day. Actually there day starts at 4AM. If they get up at 4.30AM they had to rush out. They starts at 5.30AM in the morning in he Bus which returns at 11PM and sometime if there is a rush they had to wait till 12AM to 2AM.
But at any cost they have to be at bus stand at 5.30AM. . So it is 18:30 Mins is precisely the working hour. They have their dinner at around 1 Am and sleep from 1:30 to 4 PM. Amazing life style.
I was reading a blog of a guy who is an entrepreneur and a marathoner; he catches 4 hours of sleep per day. These guys has concurred their sleep. Actually I have another blog on this sleep and body.
http://ajusamal1.blogspot.com/2007/01/mumbai-marathon.html
And this is 7days a week 365 days a year. And if one estimates the profit that is earned by the Bus owners at the cost of these poor guys, the margin should be huge. They save a persons salary. And if we calculate the profit they earn with the recent hike in bus fare, I bet it should be quite a lot.
Actually as per the estimate a Bus owner earns a profit of Rs5k-Rs8k per day (including all expenditure), my bit of estimation and after having words with few conductors.
These guys were quite enthusiastic about their saabs marriage as they will get a new Bus uniform, hats of to their honesty
And when I look at them deeply they don't really complain much, they enjoys their work.....
And we guys blasts if any work comes on Satdays and Sundays and if we extend beyond 10-11 hours per day. And I remember I got to estimate the more effort I had for past few days, I should able to grab a weeks compensatory off……
is there a regulatotory board for the sae or is there a need..

Not sure if there is a regulatory board for the same, is there a need.

Dhauli Run
As Smurti could not turn-up for the day, i decided to run alone to the Dhauli, The curoisity of running was high as i need to have couple of weeks of rest since i had the plan of operation on my foot(remiving the external object that was implanted a year back).
It was a fabulous wake-up in the morning, Just after i opened my eyes and then again thinking to sleep back, the alarm did its job perfectly. Had a little bit self-talk imagining showering after the run before rushing for the odd job....

Picked up my fuel bag after creaming my foot, arm-pit and nipple with Vaseline. Runners need to take care of this as these are places where there are chances of bleeding with the friction. Munched a few bites of Candy, decided not to have much of food. Packed 2 candies and some cash and my dig camera on my arm-pouch.
Iced my calf last night to have a cooling effect.
Started from Jayadev Vihar home very slowly and very little stretching. The curious look of the folks looking at me are a thing to watch. Some people thought me as a foreigner and wished me Good morning to which i replied in perfect oriya to their stunned look. I really enjoy those moments. These are fun points on the run. Peoples curiosity drives me crazy.

I should start running a bit early, i love Sun coming out of dark and me running on road. That's a cool to watch and morning in this part of India is quite fantastic.
Initially my shin bone was complaining a bit but after 3/4k it was over and i was enjoying the run. Reached Governer house and then to Mausima square.
On the way waved a guy having a cigarate and gestured him for quiting.
Reached Lingarj temple comfortably and was going great. reached Dhauli square, may be a 15km perfectly and after which i realized i was slowing down a bit. This is where the mental toughness comes into picture. You need to make a rhythm to come-up with the speed. At this point of time I had finished all my candies and the electrolyte. This last 3 km run i really enjoyed, the road was quite scenic.
Started feeling a bit of cramp on my stomach and decided to walk a bit and it was gone.
And now reached Dhauli square in 1:46 min.

Indias Partition
Yeh reading the book Nathruam Nathi, the Oriya version. So far the book seems to be a hardcore critic of Nehru on India’s partition, somehow i agree, Jinna had right to ask for Pakistan. And the author seems to have condemned Bapu for supporting Nehru. i realized a book by Abul Kalam Azad called "India Wins Freeddom", which got published in 1958 had been banned and again republished in 1988 after the interference of the supreme court.
Somehow feel like Neherus ego has lead to India's partition.
The basic cause of India's partition was Nehru’s reluctance of giving only 2 seats to Muslim league in 1937. Then again during 1946 Neherus declaration(Not to obey the Cabinet action plan recommending priority to minoirty) on not obeying the "cabinet action plan" which lead Jinna to ask for a Muslim country. If He would not have given the statement, Jinna should have agreed to Nehrus leadership and he has the right to afraid for the Muslim community.
I strongly recommend this book, May be someday I will read the book "India Wins freedom", this book was banned to have a turmoil on Indian politics during that time and could have exposed Nehru.
Having said this I am a harcore admirer of Gandhi and his philosophy but feel like his love for Nehry might have detered him a bit. Why din he fasted when Neheru was admant on the power.
And realized Nathruam decided to assasign Gandhi after deciding to go for a fast to give Pakistan around 50 crore during the parition but the minsisters decided againt this decission as there was the Kasmir war going on during this time. I somehow feel Gandhi did the right thing to fullfill the commitment that has been given to Pak, this is what India is known for, the tolerance and the commitment.

Promise 2009
No 2 consecutive days of non-running activity. And a milage of 20-25k till I get back my full rhythym of running. Had a decent 45-Min 8.5k recently. Need to work-out on my breathing. May be i will keep running this way, alternate days, this way my body works better and I plan for the next marathon on Decemeber, may be Mumbai, inspired by one of my friend in Mumbai, need to show my calf-muscle. Thats the only way!!!
So 50k in next 2 months. Will and my mileage rather kmage on this post everyday. Lets forget today run, easy 5.5k in 30 minutes without warm-up, My week starts from Monday to Sunday.
Last weeks run --->
Sunday -- 6k
Satday --> fart-lake 7*400m 8Min:10Sec + 7*400m 18Min:02Sec. not a bad one, I used to have in the range of 17:35 when i used to be in top-gear with a break of 5-7 minute in between. Happy, I could able to save 8 secs on my second iteration.
Friday-- Rest
Thursday --> 8.5k --> Mid 45 Min
Wed--> resr
Tuesday --> 5.5K --> 30 minutes
And this excludes the warm-up 800 meter. Last week crossed 25k. I am not going to push more, next week will reduce a bit to 22k to have fuller recovery to my shin-bone
And to add to my apetitie I have started eating non-veg. Though I feel a little bit outof breath after taking the non-veg foods especially because of spices, at least it is poping-me for having more rice(Carbo).
And a suggestion to have Glocose before and after run is probably healing the shin-bone. And to add to it I am running alteranate days and icing the calf after run.
I am pretty sure, will have bigger boost if i join swimming/cyciling. But that costs a little, a bit reluctant on that for the time being before I know where I stand finacially.
And may be, i have to take 20-25 days if rest somewhere in bewteen 2/3 weeks to have my foot operation, the external object that is set in my foot will be removed. Doc says the sonner the better.
Know none keep watching my blog. So can have heartull of thot on these blogs

Are we generouus when we volunteer to Pay
Its a sad story again from X. I was in a hurry catching the bus to my office. To my shock I met an accident with a tiny boy agaed arnd 8-10 Yrs picking up 2 tea cups in two hands. Her tiny black hand was shivering. And the entire tea spilled on my Pant. I got angry at once seeing my Jeans spoiled with the tea. But after seeing the facial expression of the Boy my anger melted to pity. The boy was silent looking at me with carrying the empty cups and the Hot tea comming out of his soft Hand, he was dedicated and did not leave any of the cups. He has leant to be dedicated at the cost of his pain. The vaccumness in his face and the way He was looking at me with the complete helpness in his face was really killing me. Perhaps He was thinking of his next job, how to answer his master. Then I looked at my purse, alas I din have change, had 50 Bucks minmum. And as such I din give anything to him. Then I walked on to the Bus, the Boy was still looking at me with the same empty look.
After moving 20 metres I realised wht a great mistake I did, I could have given him 50 Bucks. I was thinking to get down and give back the 50Rs to the Boy but I was too selfish to do tht. I realised how greedy I am. I could have afford to give him 50 bucks. It again hurt me whn I recall tht I spent arnd Rs200 by spending for a movie with my friend. At tht time I volunteered to pay the Bill as other 2 friends were unemployed.
Are we the people who spends the money whn not needed and hold back when there is a real need. Are we the people who vouch of being generous who never minds spending money for our friends, family and relatives ? May be there are people who desreve the help more than your family, friends and relatives.

My update Feb-09
Its been a slow ride for last 4 months, probably I have lossed my originality. personally I feel Im not at the top of my enthu, people may not see me as energitic i was earlier. Got out of touch with lots of my old friends, probably was looking for the solitude within myself, but the truth is one need to feel and mingle with your folks to search the solitude within your self.
this is probably all due to me arseing leg, Still not comfortable if i can be up for my good leg by March, This accident has taken the real toll on me.
Anyway finished the book Alchemist, good one. The messege is pretty clear, do sharpen your thinking and do the stuffs your heart tell you, allmost same as that of the other self-help books. But good to be read.
Also had the Bookers prize book The White Tiger. A good one, recomended for reading. The messege is India Rising and you better seize this opportunity, and the opportunity is every where, go n grab. Its a pretty cunning book, one may realize that to be a successfull you have to twist our surroundings, may be one need to be a bit corrupt to be honest.
The book is about a letter to the visiting Chienese premier to india desribing the capability of Indian Enterpeneurship and in the disguise has exposed the prevailing corruption and the way people tackles it. Worth one-time reading.
Currently with a spiritual book Living with the Himalayan Masters by Swami Rama, picked from a book fair. If not the spiritucalty I luv reading the flora and fauna of the Himalayas, i personally feel my soothing experience at the himalayas,
this is probably all due to me arseing leg, Still not comfortable if i can be up for my good leg by March, This accident has taken the real toll on me.

Weekend Party

Yeh I finished the book Shantaram and now on a vacation trip, listening to the CD "How to Break the rules to be a good manager" . Shantaram is a good book who need to know the insight into India and into the life. There are lots of phrases which really tocuches your butt and shakes yur head.
I had a party last night. And we guys over few beers were suddenly drifted towards a discussion on the meaning of life. In fact I was the culprit who started asking to Mr Mohanty "what do you mean by being a Sanyasi" who is an entrepreneur in refractories and probbaly He loved when gets introduced by being a Sanyas by heart.
Then the hot topic statred with the difference between "Body and Soul" and then the it was hotter and hotter. A famous Guru told that the "Body is an illusion and the Soul is the one which I do not know" as desribed by another chap.
few other catches. A lady on his mid sixties described when her Husband died while She was helping him on his bath tub, She felt that some part of her got out from his heart. We at last come into conclusion that it cannot be described and the perception changes from person to person. Slowly we drifted down to diferernt Gurus and tried to crack their inteligence by showing our intelligence. In fact I was mum listening to all these preaches over beer.
But this tiny guy (Into media biz) statred saying all these Gurus interpret the scriptures on their own way and probably they also do not know the meaning of their life, probably to which we all anonymously agreed and at the end we probably decided Dog is the only truth becuz He is faithfull. So being faithfull and being as a Dog is the meaning of life!!!!
But anyway we decided to carry on with our talk over plenty of beers on the next weekend probably at a camp in a Jungle. So keep an eye to this link.
Yeh I remember Julians word, a french guy who is probably in his mid 20's and has the wisdom of late 60's. I do not bother about all these meaing. I am more pragmatic and keep on loving my work and do not really bother to find all these answers.
But in my view raising the question to yourself "Who Am I, What am I, and What am I doing " and scratching your butt over there is a good thing to start/end.
Yeh the conclusion of the meet from 8PM till 12AM by julian was I am a good romantic listener and proabbly will be a hit among Girls in France, till now not sure if its a complementary or a teasing line.
Yeh there was this incident When the lady again opened up on her line, when her Baby Girl Mac asked; Mom why did you give us birth when I am going to die. And She embarced the Girl and said look I also do not know the meaning and in the mean time Mac(Her 7 Yr old son) hogged all of them and told "Why we need to bother on this when none knows what death is", amazing answer.
So guys keep waiting for our next set of beer to continue

Trading from Office
Recently as I was accesing a site for running to prepare a marathon schdule for one of my collegue and found it blocked where as someone else doing the trading as such thought of wrtitng this blog.
Probably its an offically acceptable norm to do the online trading from office. But is this ethical ??
I have heard of the fact that people used to shout at the network team when there is a slowness while accesing the trading site especially the icicdirect.com, in fact the slowness is caused by the simolteneouus access during the trading opening/closijng time.
My point is, "Is it officially accepatable to do the online trading from ofice during office hours". I am of the opinion that 20% of time is devoted to this site.
In my view the more the people are experienced the probablity of accessing this site is more, the same is propagated to the new joinees. Is this the truth. On my view around 50% of employees who are more than 4 years of experience (invariable of the position) devotes around 12% of the time on time. Probably Im giving a conservative figure.
I am of the opinion there is no right for persons to access these sites from office. I understand this adds to the growing economy of India.
But in my view let this trading work be outsourced to other peoples and a separate industry grow-up with their profesional expertise and as well a new job opporunity in India. Even in my view the employees will get quality trading with their expertise and the employees gets benefit on their expertise and devoting qulaity time at office.
I have seen the mind set of an employee after the loss/gain on a particular day. Even on any day there mind must be going with the planned trading in next few hours.
In my career I have seen my Boss doing the same, my team members too follow the pattern and invariably HRs usually have this site opened.
So guys lets opine.

The Bench experience
Now I am on my bench and probably I will be getting 1-2 months of no work period. I plan to enroll for the Yoga class in the evening and do my usual running workout in the morning with a mixture martial art. I would be really thankfull if someone get me a good martial art teacher in Bhubaneswar, I promise to be a good student.
And by this time I am also on the 3-4th of the book "Shantram" written by Gerrgia Robert. Its quite funny and a movie is planned with this book. This guy is really terrifc. I will be really glad to have an ounce of experience like this guy had.
Somehow in my heart I am tempted to be next Shantaram

Mumbai Marathon
Yesterday I had my last long run for the preparation for Mumbai Marathon on 21st-Jan-2007. I ran in the Ekamra Kanan(The botanical garden in Bhubaneswar) along with Achillesh, the Hungarian friend. This place is quite scenic with a lake around and if you go wild, you can slip into the jungle and may get a chance to meet wild elephant(In fact I had seen elephant once on my wild run 4 years back and fortunately escaped). This is the place where wild elephants often takes a moon-walk and allows us in the morning. The beauty of running here is you get plenty of grass and this is probably the best place for flat-footers in Bhubaneswar.
The preparation for this marathon is not so good. Got transfered from Chennai to Bhubaneswar and trying to matching-up the expectation of my family, office and to myself along with the bad diet. After the last Hyderabad half-marathon, I had a knee injury which I could able to recover recently with the help of alternate cycling and as such could able to go a reasonable 15K before the Mumbai run.
After reading an article from Chennai runners, I got inspired. I should take control of my body and not the body who will detect me. Though I had a whole night at office on Friday, i decided to go for the run, Reached home at 5.30AM and lessed my shoe for the run at 6.10AM on Satday. and finished at around 7.40AM. I geared up by the article and decided to go for the cricket match within the Satyam group and had a reasonable perfomance in taking 3 wickets and a run out on our easy victory over the opponent. My body was not complaining much. Then again got back to office at 4PM after having lunch at my Sisters house to initiate a job which had to implmeneted in production on Tuesday. I slipped-up to my house for a short nap from 7 -10PM and again rushed back to office. But I dozed off at night and the job failed. So I had to return back to home at 3.30Am on Sunday morning and is running the job at office on Monday morning. probably it will be finished at 5AM today and I plan to go for cycling in Gym before heating the bed.
Forgot to mention that I did Sudarshan kriya (A breathing technique by AOL http://www.artofliving.org/courses/kriya.htm) which soothed me a lot. I usually do it every day and it makes me rejunivated after the long run. Had 2 .30 hours sleep in the afternoon followed by 45 minutes of Yoga,Pranayama and meditation (called Padmasahdana being tought by AOL) and again got back to office at 9PM to kick my ass again.
But I learnt that I can take cortrol of my body and will probably do the Mumbai marathon inspite of having bad food and late night/early morning at office.
Here is the link for the Hyderbad half-marathon and Chennai fun run by Ram http://chennailiving.blogspot.com/search/label/Running
